High atop the Blue Ridge Mountains sits the Little Switzerland Resort, our home away from home for the next two nights. As we travel across the Palmetto State toward the mountains of North Carolina, we’ll stop at Lake Lure for a wonderful cruise during the peak of fall foliage color. Hear the legends of the lake and learn about the natural and cultural history of Hickory Nut Gorge, home to Lake Lure. We continue to the Blue Ridge Parkway, a ribbon of road that weaves through the region’s vibrant living traditions and offers the best opportunities to view natures’ canvas of fall colors. Check into the Little Switzerland Inn & Resort and enjoy VIP service, elegant dining, and breath-taking views. D

Enjoy breakfast at the resort before we head out along the Blue Ridge Parkway toward Grandfather Mountain. Marvel at the views afforded from the Mile-High Swinging Bridge, which allows visitors to admire the 360-degree panoramic views from Grandfather Mountain. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as black bears, river otters, cougars, deer and bald eagles. Finally check out the Wood Carver’s Workshop as Tom Wolfe, one of America’s preeminent carvers of caricature figurines, works his craft. Return to the Resort and enjoy its many amenities including a Spa. Dinner is included this evening in the main dining room. B D

After breakfast we bid farewell to Little Switzerland and drive to the quaint town of Hendersonville. The Downtown boasts a wide array of shopping, antique stores, galleries, and museums as well as a variety of restaurants for lunch (on own). As we depart for home, we will make one more stop at a local apple farm, so you may purchase freshly picked apples. B
