Glory of the Gershwins, Charleston, SC

Glory of the Gershwins, Charleston, SC

$139per person

George and Ira Gershwin will always be remembered as the songwriting team synonymous with the sound of the Jazz Age. From 1924 to 1937 the brothers composed over two dozen scores for the stage and cinema. Though they charted individual hits, their greatest achievement may be elevating musical comedy to an American art form. Now Brad and Jennifer Moranz present a two-hour celebration of their catalog at the Charleston Music Hall, from the beginnings on Tin Pan Alley to the work on Broadway and Hollywood musicals. Included is their greatest achievement, “Porgy and Bess,” written right here in Charleston! You’ll also hear songs like “Love is Here to Stay,” “I Got Rhythm,” “Embraceable You,” “Foggy Day,” “S’Wonderful,” “The Man I Love,” “Strike Up the Band,” “Summertime,” and the immortal “Rhapsody in Blue!” We’ll enjoy an included lunch before the 2:00pm curtain.
