Visit the new National Museum of African American History & Culture. The newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution, it is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. It was established by an Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. It opened on September 24, 2016 to great acclaim. The museum explores what it means to be an American and shares how American values like resiliency, optimism, and spirituality are reflected in African American history and culture.

Meet your Kelly Tours coach and tour escort and travel north towards our Nation’s Capital, Washington DC. There will be plenty of rest stops and a stop for lunch (on own) in-route. Water and snacks will also be available onboard the coach. Before we enter Woodbridge VA we stop for an included dinner before checking into our Virginia hotel and overnight. D

Following breakfast we head into Washington DC to visit the new National Museum of African American History & Culture. The newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution, it is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. Dinner is included this evening followed by a guided illumination tour of Washington DC’s monuments and memorials. B D

After breakfast we embark on an African American History Tour featuring the community of Cedar Hill, home of Fredrick Douglass, the Mary McLeod Bethune statue, National Council of Negro Women, and the MLK Memorial. Mid-morning, we depart to return home. B
