The Yadkin Valley area of North Carolina is one of the most prominent wine regions on the East Coast. The valley is home to more than 40 vineyards and wineries and to America’s first grape, the Muscadine, also known as the Scuppernong. Today we head to Elkin, NC, and our first winery stop at Windsor Run Cellars located in the picturesque foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Windsor Run offers a diverse combination of classic French wines, sweet summer-inspired blends, and signature fortified wines infused with spirits distilled from their own legal Still! Enjoy a tasting of their fine wines as well as the liquor selection from the Still. Our next stop is Shadow Springs Vineyard where a boxed lunch will be provided and can be enjoyed at their lovely picnic area over looking the vineyards. This vineyard grows eight different grapes; six are French Vinifera and two are French American Hybrids, chosen both because of their compatibility with the North Carolina climate and to offer a broad range of flavors guaranteed to please any palate. Taste a range of 8 wines in their new dynamic tasting room. We check into our hotel before heading out for an included dinner. L D

Following breakfast, we spend some time in the downtown area to wander the town center and perhaps indulge in a little antiquing before heading to Raffaldini Vineyards. Upon arrival at this beautiful Tuscan-style villa you will be led on a tour of the vineyard where viticulture and wine making techniques will be explained. Finally, we head upstairs where a Raffaldini attendant will conduct the wine tasting, describing and pouring each wine for us. There will be plenty of time to shop at the winery store before heading back home. B
