Project Description

Historic Beaufort & Parris Island

Historic Beaufort & Parris Island

$129per person

Known as the “Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands,” Beaufort is a city of lordly and striking mansions of pre-Revolutionary and pre-Civil War eras. We depart Savannah this morning. Upon arrival in Beaufort board our RED Carriage for a 55-minute, fully narrated, horse drawn carriage tour. Slip back in time and experience Beaufort’s elegant past, rich history, and unique charm as your carriage meanders under the moss-covered Live Oaks, past breathtaking Antebellum homes, historic churches, movie sites, and more. After our tour we will have some free time in Downtown Beaufort for browsing in the unique and quaint shops that line Bay Street. Enjoy lunch at one of the fine restaurants before we depart for our guided tour of Parris Island Marine Base. It’s rich history dates back to the mid-1500s when Spanish and French explorers clashed on the Island’s shores for a strategic foothold in the New World. Today, it is one of the main recruit training stations for the United States Marine Corps. Highlights of our visit will be the Iwo Jima Monument, Parade Field, and the Parris Island Museum that explores the long and rich legacy of the US Marine Corps and the exciting history of the Port Royal region. After our tour we say good bye to Beaufort and make our way back to Savannah.
