Depart Charleston, SC for a day of touring Blackville, SC and the “back country” of South Carolina. Our tour begins at the Agricultural Heritage Center of SC which focuses on the historical and cultural influences of agriculture in the area. Then we travel into Downtown Blackville where we will enjoy a home-cooked Amish-Mennonite meal with a scrumptious dessert at Miller’s Bread Basket. Be sure and purchase one of their delicious pies to take home with you! Then we meet our local guide who will give us a tour of Historic Blackville where we will see the historic homes and churches with a special stop at “God’s Acre – Healing Springs”. Located behind the Healing Springs Baptist Church, the Springs have the unique distinction of being deeded to God. Native Americans who lived near this site believed the waters were sacred because of their healing properties. Fill up your plastic water jugs and take some home. Finally, we visit a nearby Mennonite Church where one of the Elders will meet us and tell us some of the local history of the Mennonites and how they came to settle here. Sadly, we must now bid farewell to the beautiful “back country” of South Carolina as we journey home to Charleston.
